Product Manager on the Android System UI team

Chris is an engineer working in Android Developer Relations at Google. He previously worked on the Android Support Libraries, most notably AppCompat, Design and Palette. He has worked on Android things for over 8 years, from open source libraries to media apps, social networks and most stuff in between.

Rohan is a product manager at Google on the Android System UI team, with prior experience working with Android development on the Android Gmail team. He received his bachelor's degree in computer science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Abstract

To aid developers to create immersive experiences, Android Q adds new system navigation models to allow apps to take over more of the user's screen. This talk will look at how apps should work with the new gesture navigation, and ways to mitigate gesture conflicts. We’ll look at how to update apps to go edge-to-edge, drawing behind the system bars to create a immersive experience for users. Finally we’ll go through ways to make the WindowInsets APIs easier to use.
